Course Overview

Agriculture Eco-Labeling
Purpose of Course
To train participants on the systems and mechanisms of Eco-Labeling as applied to Agriculture and Agricultural Products with specific emphasis on the EcoMark Africa (EMA) as the driving mechanism.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the set of courses for the sector, the participants will be able to:-
1. Define and explain what an Eco Label is.
2. Appreciate the types and role of Agricultural Eco-Labeling Mechanism
3. Appreciate the application and usage of the Eco Mark Africa (EMA) on Agriculture and Agricultural products.
4. Will have the knowledge to apply EMA procedures to their business process and be able to cooperate with different players in the implementation of EcoMark Africa label.

Course Content
The core of the training will delve on the basics, definition, development and implementation of the ARS-EMA Ecolabeling standards to business processes and products an economic and social progression undertaking which brings benefits to society and supports climate change mitigation and remediation. The major topics include;
1. EMA Labelling Criteria,
2. Implementation of the EMA Label,
3. Inspection System,
4. Certification to the EMA Label,
5. Benchmarking
6. Accreditation
As applied to Agriculture and Agricultural Products.

Course Curriculum

Introduction ‘Conversion’ refers to the physical and biological processes the farmer and the farming system must undergo to comply with organic standards. ‘Certification’ refers to a formal process which assesses and then accredits the farming system for compliance with organic standards.
